Local group have plans to support global climate regeneration

Ludlow Fairtrade Town Group, a member of Ludlow’s sustainability action family Ludlow 21, are hosting a series of events to help producers fight climate change in vulnerable communities around the world.

From book sales to a virtual “Big Brew” event, there will be plenty to choose from over the coming weeks. All the money raised will go towards Traidcraft Exchange’s ‘Regenerators’ Appeal’ which is supporting communities in countries such as Tanzania who are living with the devastating effects of climate change.

Every pound donated to the appeal before the 7 th June 2021 will be doubled by the UK government, and will go towards the purchase of climate-resilient crops and renewable technologies to support people in developing countries who have been hit hardest by climate change.

The first event held in Ludlow will be a free virtual fundraiser taking place over Zoom on Tuesday 11 th May from 5-6pm. Participants will learn about the incredible work that Traidcraft are doing in vulnerable communities around the world, and have a chance to test their knowledge in a Climate Change Quiz. Please book your free spot.

The following events will take place in person, with social distancing measures in place, to take advantage of the Spring weather and easing restrictions. A bring-and-buy bake sale is planned for Sunday 23 rd May at 11am at St Laurence’s Church, and the Traidcraft stall at the Local to Ludlow Market will be making a comeback with a special fundraiser on Thursday 23 rd May from 10am – 2pm.

Ludlow Mascall Centre will host the final event on Saturday 5 th June, a Traidcraft Summer pop-up shop selling ethically sourced food, gifts and homewares. Raffle tickets will be sold to raise money for the Regenerator’s Appeal with a hamper of ethically sourced products up for grabs.

Liz Taylor, who is a member of Ludlow Fairtrade Town Group and runs the Traidcraft shop in Ludlow Mascall Centre, says ‘We are really excited that we have the opportunity to raise twice as much money this year to support the people who produce much of our food and who have been doubly hit by Covid-19 and climate change. We’ve got amazing events planned and we hope that the community in Ludlow will help us raise as much money as we can for this worthwhile cause.

We hope that the community in Ludlow will help us raise as much money as we can for this worthwhile cause.

Amy Wilson, Head of Fundraising at Traidcraft Exchange, said: ‘Everyone who holds or attends an event as part of The Regenerators Appeal will be helping people in countries like Tanzania and Bangladesh who are experiencing the worst impacts of climate change, while having done the least to cause it. We can help them stand strong and regenerate their local environment.’
