Ludlow Assembly Rooms | Services

A welcoming, accessible arts centre offering live theatre, music, comedy, cinema and much more in the heart of Shropshire.

Ludlow Assembly Rooms is a place for everyone, where the arts inspire connection, creativity and wellbeing.

Ludlow Assembly Rooms has been a place for people to come together for almost 200 years.
Assembly Rooms became popular in the 18th century as places for social gatherings, balls and concerts. In the mid-1830s, it was proposed that Ludlow should have a new Assembly Rooms. More than £6,000 was raised through public subscription, and the buildings seen today were erected over the following two years. The Public Rooms officially opened on 2nd July 1840.

Almost two centuries later, Ludlow Assembly Rooms remains at the heart of the town, with a vibrant programme of culturally relevant, engaging and exciting events for local people and visitors alike.
The varied programme spans live music, theatre, comedy, cinema, family events, talks, creative workshops and more, with something to suit every age and interest. The cinema shows everything from the latest blockbusters and popular releases to independent films. Each December, the much-loved pantomime brings families together for festive fun.

In August 2026, the Ludlow History Festival debuted, bringing together a rich programme celebrating the fascinating history and heritage of Ludlow.

Being part of Ludlow Assembly Rooms is incredibly rewarding. There’s always something happening here, and I love seeing people of all ages coming through the doors, enjoying themselves and being part of the community. It’s a special place, and the atmosphere on event nights is something you really have to experience for yourself.
Joan Fisher, Stewarding Coordinator

The building is home to a 253-seat auditorium, studio spaces, function rooms, Bill’s Kitchen café, Visitor Information Centre and Box Office. It is also proud to be home to Pentabus, the nation’s rural theatre, alongside a range of classes, groups and community activities.

Whether it’s a night at the theatre, an afternoon at the cinema, live music, a coffee at Bill’s Kitchen, a creative workshop, a class or simply meeting friends, Ludlow Assembly Rooms is a welcoming space at the heart of the community.

A place to experience culture, discover something new, meet people and enjoy all that Ludlow has to offer.
