Mothering Sunday or Mothers Day?

Probably one of the toughest, most challenging roles in life there is, yet also one of the most rewarding jobs a lot of us are lucky enough to have…yep we are talking about MUMS.

Here in the UK we will be celebrating our Mothers, or mother figures and all that they’ve done for us on March 14th many other countries including our American friends celebrate on May 9th.

The UK’s Mother’s Day always falls on the fourth Sunday during the period of Lent. The original event had nothing to do with mothers at all and it was a day where domestic servants were given the day off to return to their hometown and worship with their families in their “mother” church, and was called Mothering Sunday. On their way home, these youths would pick wild flowers to place in the church – or give to their mothers.

The US event was established separately in 1914 and was not linked to religion but was dedicated entirely to mothers. – thanks to campaigns by the mums’ groups which were established during the Civil War.

So if you want to celebrate the ladies who brought us into the world, rocked us in their arms, taught us right from wrong, picked us up when we were down & sometimes gave us a jolly good rollicking, here is our gift guide...
